Loving and valuing who we are at the core is something that comes as a result of a lot of inner work. As we learn more about ourselves and what makes us tick, we allow our brightest qualities to surface and lead us down a path of positive self-discovery and success.
If we don’t value, love and dedicate time and energy for ourselves, it’s very unlikely that we will do the same for others. We give and accept the love we feel from within.
Here are 6 ways to start valuing yourself and find transform your negative self-talk into one of transformation.
Become Self Aware
Self awareness is at the core of beginning this journey. Self awareness involves taking a bird’s eye view of yourself, and lovingly addressing your strengths and weaknesses. Make a list of all the things you’re good at, the things you like about yourself, and your talents. Becoming self-aware of these things will create a positive space to shift your mental environment into one of love and acceptance.
You also have to learn how to accept the weakness you cannot change, and embrace that they are what makes you, you. On the contrary, working on bettering the weaknesses you can change is what will lead you down the path of becoming your greatest version.
Put Yourself First
When you are in the presence of someone who truly values and respects themselves, it’s almost palpable. They don’t allow anyone to speak down on them, they value their time, and they put themselves first.
If you notice mistreatment from others, you will notice it in how you feel around them. Your energy will feel depleted and you will find yourself wanting more and more time away from them. Put your happiness first, whether that means eliminating toxic people, situations or foods from your life.
Set Aside Time for Yourself
Taking time to do the things you love, care for yourself both physically and emotionally, and do things that light your inner joy will make you even more present when you are with others. Taking care of yourself helps you enjoy the time you spend with your loved ones.
Don’t feel guilty for craving alone time, and openly communicate it to the people in your life.
When we don’t value ourselves, oftentimes, we feel unworthy of our dreams and taking action to achieve them. Whether you have fitness goals, career goals or goals to start a family, with self-value comes the natural drive to make your dreams come alive. Take action to better yourself so you can be better for the world.
Taking action means realizing that all you have is now, and procrastinating will only drive your dreams further away.
Tell People What You Need
Out of all the ways to start valuing yourself, telling people what you need can be the hardest. Telling people what you need means that you have stepped past the point of doing things for others out of courtesy, or obligation, and have learned how to say no.
For example, some introverts find it difficult to tell others they need a few days away from people to re-energize and find time for their hobbies. It’s important to first realize what you need to find a harmonious balance of contentment and peace from within yourself, and make sure the people you love know.
