Claire Sutton is a specialist in human behaviour in the workplace and a leader in the field of
Employee Assistance Programs.
Claire worked in business and marketing prior to receiving a graduate degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia. This blend of careers has given Claire a deeper understanding of the impact of our pro-active business community and our evolving society on individuals, families, organizations and communities. Many clients today are faced with a complexity of work-life issues. Claire’s understanding and overall well roundedness has contributed greatly to her clinical professionalism i.e. she is real, intelligent, insightful, energetic and effective.
Since 1992, Claire has worked in the field of EAP (Employee Assistance Programs) as a counsellor, contract manager, clinical supervisor, National Director of a leading BC EAP provider and an independent EFAP consultant. In 2002 Claire launched Claire Sutton Consulting inc. and almost immediately secured a contract position as an EFAP Consultant with BC Hydro. The 3 month contract continued for 13 months. In 2005, through FSEAP-Toronto, Claire stepped into an EFAP consultant – one year contract position – for Family Services of Toronto’s EAP ( FSEAP-Toronto) to manage their EAP for Canada Post BC. Both these internal EAP positions were part-time allowing Claire to build her private practice. Claire is a highly skilled mental health and workplace consultant, coach and solution-focused therapist..
Claire has designed and delivered EAP training for counsellors: The Fundamentals & More of EAP/EFAP. This training has been highly successful since 2003 and has been offered online since 2005.
Claire gives back to her profession in the following roles: President of the Western Canada EAPA Branch; EAP Advisor to the members of the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors; and member of the advisory board for the Adler School of Professional Psychology. Claire has also presented at EAP conferences in both Canada and the United States.
