The Team
Barbara Armstrong, LL.B., M.A., RCC
Barbara received a Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology in 1995 and is a member of the B.C. Association of Clinical Counsellors. She has worked extensively as a counsellor in the EAP field and uses a variety of approaches such as short term solution focused therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy and EMDR to help clients with a wide variety of problems. Since 2003, Barbara has built up an expertise in coaching/counselling executives and members of the legal profession who are seeking to deal with work related problems such as excessive stress and burnout. She is skilled at assisting these clients to increase effectiveness and performance in very demanding occupations while maintaining their own well-being.
Prior to becoming a professional counsellor, Barbara worked as a lawyer for 16 years, first in corporate, commercial and securities law and later in the field of labour, employment and human rights. As well, she was one of the founding partners in a successful entrepreneurial venture and as such is very familiar with the unique problems and stresses inherent in developing and running a small business.
Barbara has extensive training and experience in conflict resolution and mediation and in particular its application to interpersonal conflict, harassment and bullying in the workplace. She has worked as a consultant in the area of workplace conflict management since 1996. Barbara has volunteered for organizations serving people with eating disorders, abused and neglected children, and victims of domestic violence.
