About Claire Sutton

Claire worked in business and marketing prior to receiving a graduate degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia. This blend of careers has given Claire a deeper understanding of the impact of our pro-active business community and our evolving society on individuals and organizations. Many clients today are faced with a complexity of work-life issues. Claire’s understanding and overall well roundedness has contributed greatly to her clinical professionalism i.e. she is real, intelligent, insightful, energetic and effective.

Since 1992, Claire has worked in the field of EAP (Employee Assistance Programs) as a counsellor, contract manager, clinical supervisor, National Director of a leading BC EAP provider and an independent EFAP consultant.

The field of Employee Assistance Programs helped Claire hone her skills to be an effective solution-focused counsellor, discerning consultant and dynamic trainer. Her gentle manner, her wisdom and her professional demeanour have enabled Claire: to convey trust and sincerity; to have clear understanding of her client’s issues; and, to challenge her clients early on.

In this process, clients are able to begin stepping into their confidence to address their troubling issues and then take the necessary steps to make the needed changes to fully live their lives. She believes that each person has the resources within themselves to solve their own problems and to move through their own stuck feelings. Claire focuses on helping, guiding and motivating her clients to tap into those personal resources of strength and potential so that they can deal with their troubling issues in a solution-focused manner.

Claire is a strong advocate of Employer-Of-Choice organizations who are also enlightened organizations i.e. aware of life’s realities in today’s society. As Claire states "In addition to effective productivity and significant profitability today's bottom line must reflect high employee morale and employee retention along with employer-employee satisfaction." Claire is committed to helping individuals and organizations be the best that they can be in a society that is currently stressed, exhausted and reactive to a click-click 24/7 culture. People can thrive in this information-technology age as long as time is allowed for relaxation and rejuvenation. Claire also contributes her time, insight and energy towards combating the current crisis of Depression in the Workplace.

Claire is one of the few Canadian professionals who has earned the Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP) designation. She is a skilled presenter and is fluent in French as a second language. Claire is committed to her own personal and professional development.
